1. Double-Entry Ledger Principles in Database Schema Design
In financial engineering, account balances should never be stored as simple mutable integer columns (e.g. user.balance += 100). Instead, systems must implement immutable double-entry bookkeeping. Every financial event creates a Transaction with at least two JournalEntry records: a debit to one account and an equal credit to another. A platform's total assets must always equal its liabilities plus equity at any timestamp.
